What Program Is Used To Make Terkoiz

's widow SAREPHTA

Invoking
"Grant me, O Lord, a little 'time for my musings on the secrets of your writing. Not close to me who knocked on his door. Not without a purpose surely thou, O Lord, you did write many pages full of mysteries. No shortage of lovers of the word holy as deer take refuge in it as in a forest. In it is refreshed. Roam in it from corner to corner as in a meadow. Graze. find rest and ruminate.
O Lord, 'that I go so far: Reveal your writing. Here, your voice is my joy. Your word is my desire beyond desire. Give me what I love. You know I love you: you gave me to love. Do not forsake me, O Lord. Do not overlook this piece of grass that thirsts for you. When you find out the secrets of your books, then I will praise my soul "(St. Augustine).

lectio (1 Kings 17.7 to 16)
17, [7] A few days later the brook dried up, because it did not rain on the region. [8] The Lord spoke to him and said
[9] "Arise, go to Zarephath of Sidon and settle down there. Here I have commanded a widow there to your food." [10] He got up and went to Zarephath. Entered the city gate, here's a widow gathering sticks. He called her and said, "Take some water in a jar that I may drink." [11] As she was going to take it, he shouted: "Take a piece of bread." [12] And she said, "For the life of the Lord thy God, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in the jar and a little oil in and now I pick up two pieces of wood, then I'll go to cook it for me and my son to eat and then die. " [13] And Elijah said, "Do not be afraid and do as you said, but first make a little cake and bring it to me, so I'll prepare for you and your son, [14] because the Lord says: The jar of meal shall not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied until the Lord sends rain upon the earth. "[15] she went and did as Elijah said. Ate it, he and her son for several days. [16] The jar of meal was not less, jug of oil fail, according to the word that the Lord had foretold through Elijah.

After presenting the vocation of the prophet Elijah as a burst of God in history that we live in, leaving us when Elijah drank of the brook. "
present the widow of Col Sarephta, there is an introduction of the dry river, drought increases. That 'little' meat bread, water end, and the prophet to continue his ministry, his experience of God must be educated by the poor Sarephta, a city of Phoenicia, and then pagan land.
We walk on tiptoe in this track, with an expression of Paul: "But God chose what is foolish in the world to confound the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong, God chose what which is low and despised in the world and what is nothing to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast before God "(1 Cor 1.27 to 29).
In these words we can read the vocation of each one of us, even the person who, like Jeremiah, responds the Lord thus: "Ah, Lord God, I can not speak, because they are young" (1.6). It is a weakness that is rewarded, because, as mentioned above, the Lord "does justice to the oppressed, gives food to the hungry [...] protects the stranger, he sustains the orphan and the widow, but thwarts the path of the wicked" ( Sal 146,7.9). From
text we read that the plan is upset Ahab and Elijah found refuge and support along with the widow and her son. The widow
shows mourning clothes, collecting firewood and to the words of the prophet which calls on it to get some water to drink, she is welcoming, it starts moving, the Word same set in motion this poor woman. But the Prophet asked him along with the water even bread.
course now has a fix for the situation that the widow is living with his son: "For the life of the Lord thy God, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in the jar and a little oil in and now I collect two pieces of wood, then I'll go to cook for myself and for my son to eat and die "(v. 12). The prophet comforts her.
The widow is a pagan woman featured in its simplicity and spontaneity in the most difficult despair, is reason for confidence in the word of the prophet, the Word of God so much to put into practice what the prophet says.
Obedience of this woman allowed to precede reason as she was told, everything has allowed the encounter with God, so that eventually, the widow makes his profession of faith: "Now I know you're a man of God and that the word of the Lord is on your lips "(1 Kings 17.24).
This woman becomes a model of obedience, a model of listening to one who received the word with faith, because "Faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
The prophet of this pagan experiences at home, the widow of the warmth and solidarity, and the Word, and Charity are not exhausted.
The widow is a symbol of really small, poor (in fact Sareptha is a small town), where everyone can be placed, to find the meaning of his vocation: the love of God and love of neighbor and the prophet, he found meaning to his vocation. The widow
for each of us is an example of shared values that never run out, despite the drought dominant outside.
Even Jesus presents this example of life (cf. Mk 12.41-44, cf. Also Luke 4.25-26), to go to her school: she is like ... Jesus gives all of himself (cf. Lk 10 33-37). Even in this poor woman manifests a call, a gift from the Lord: be a prophet. Indeed, "Whoever welcomes a prophet ... will have the reward of the prophet, and he who receives a right as right will have the reward of the righteous. And whosoever shall give to one cup of cold water auno of these little ones because he is a disciple, verily I say unto you, do not lose his reward "(Mt 10.41-42).
evident from these words that Jesus expects his disciples, his prophets are accepted at home (cf. Lk 4.24-26), but there is a mission that he has received and for which he is willing to offer his life.
In some ways, the widow of Sareptha offers his life, starting by listening to the words of the prophet in the sharing of their lives. The phrase "fear not ..." (V. 13) is the same word of God which passes in the lives of many people who are in the Bible, but also outside of it, because it is the caress of God that touches the heart and call to life and self-giving .
The widow is a sign of God's continuing presence in the history of those who entrust themselves to Him to walk, to accept his word in his own life even when life comes hard, "With all your soul and with all your strength" (Deut. 6:4-5). In the Mishna, part of the Talmud (II century AD), we sketched an answer: "With all my soul" means "even if he rips the soul", that is, until his martyrdom, "with all your strength " means "with all your possessions", ie with all your substances, the widow asked his son, his most valuable asset, as it was for Abraham: "... take your son, your only son whom you love, Isaac , is' the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on a mountain that I will show you "(Genesis 22:2).
The widow is the one who trusts in God without reserve nothing for himself and not expecting any miracles from him, because it is capable of playing their lives to God with an attitude of trust, openness and readiness to complete the streets and His providence. She is like the widow of the Gospel that "in her poverty, put everything he had, all she had to live "(Mk 12.43-44) to become an icon of a living faith.

question
1.
In your insecurity or condition of misery, find a place to welcome the Word of God?
2. Are you able to obey, preferring reason to what you are asked by the Word of God, to know "the God of Elijah?
3. Are you ready you, like the widow, to share what little they have no difficulty in believing that God cares for the poor?
4. The words "fear not ...", you're ready to respond as the widow with a sort of oath to trust God, who inspires and to guide choices of complete surrender to him?

prayer
In our poverty, Lord, we cry to thee to the extreme of our forces. Thou hast healed, we've raised the soft mud of our condition. Plenty has changed in the first famine, the holy city and its temple are now Zareptha, pagan city. We were alone, alone with our "only children" with no other matters that are drought and hunger. At the height of loneliness, you come and ask us again, "all we have to live."
You knock on the door of our hearts and remind us that only God is the Lord. " We get "the water of affliction and the bread of affliction" and we can not give you anything but "a handful of flour and a little 'oil."
We hear, O Lord, our inability to give the skin it is not like before when we lived in wealth, now the little that we can only "eat it and die."
Fill the jar or the Lord's fragile our lives because we can eat their fill and not fail in your Word.

actio
to act in life you should know that the disciple of the Lord is the one who bears witness not to an abstract ideal but fully adheres to the Gospel according to the teaching of St. Paul: "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God unto salvation" (Rom 1.16-17).

READ (1 Kings 16,23-34-17,1-6)
16, [23] In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king of Israel. He reigned twelve years, including six in Tirzah. [24] Then he bought the hill from Semer Someron for two talents of silver. Built on the mountain and called the city which he built Samaria there by the name of Semer, owner of Mt. [25] Omri did evil in the eyes of God, worse than all his predecessors. [26] he walked in all the way of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat and sins of those who had made Israel sin, provoking anger with their vanities to Yahweh, the God of Israel. [27] The other events of Omri, and all his actions and his exploits are described in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. [28] Omri slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. In his place his son Ahab became king.
[29] Ahab son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah. Ahab son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two. [30] Ahab son of Omri did evil in the eyes of God, worse than all his predecessors. [31] It's not enough to imitate the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but also took to wife Jezebel daughter Et-Baal, king of those of Sidon, and began to serve Baal and worship him. [32] He erected an altar to Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. [33] Ahab erected a grove and he made things even more irritating to the Lord God of Israel, more than all his predecessors the kings of Israel. [34] In his days Chiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho, laid the foundation on Abiram his first-born and raised above the doors Segub his youngest child, according to the word of the Lord through Joshua son of Nun.
17, [1] Elijah the Tishbite, one of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "For the life of the Lord, the God of Israel, before whom I stand, in these years there will be no dew or rain, if not I'll tell you when. "
[2] He was the word of the LORD: [3]" Get out of here, head east and hide by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. [4] Ibid drink the river and the crows for my command will bring you your food. "[5] He performed the commandment of the LORD, and went to settle the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan. [6] The ravens brought bread and meat in the morning to evening, and he drank of the brook.

go along with this lectio, a part of the experience of the prophet Elijah, starting from its historical context, socio-politico-religious that makes us understand that the call the service of God appears in a moment of history we live (cf. 16:23). In fact, verses 23-34 of chapter. 16 of 1 Kings are a theological interpretation of historical events.
Verse 1 begin by recalling the historical period with the ascension of Omri. He, for history, was a great king. United with its policy the northern kingdom (Israel) and the peoples of the Syro-Phoenician significant tightening economic ties, expanding trade. To secure its borders and stabilize trade relations with sirofenici. Omri founded the kingdom of Samaria as the capital of North dedicating a temple to Baal (cf. 1 Kgs 16.29-32) was Syro-Phenician deity. Yet, he "he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, worst of all his predecessors' (16:25). But with the ascent to the throne of Ahab son of Omri, was altered, this integration reached its peak: it was Ahab married Jezebel of Tyre-Sidon, the city was Syro-Phenician. It was the custom in ancient
any political and commercial recognition, allowing the other party the exercise of worship. Jezebel, in fact, continued in Israel also surround the Phoenician cult of "prophets" as the instruments and ministers of Baal. So he came to create a break-up socio-religious court in the kingdom of the north and middle classes in the city was worshiped Baal, among the people, however, was worshiped YHWH.
This disintegration of values of life, even religion, has created a situation of crisis and death (see 16.34).
But Ahab "He did evil in the eyes of God, worse than all his predecessors [...] began to serve Baal and worship him. He erected an altar to Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. Ahab erected a grove and he made things even more irritating to the Lord God of Israel, more than all his predecessors the kings of Israel "(16:30-33).
In this reading we see the end of the theological jahwismo, namely the loss of identity of the people of Israel, the end of the ideal egalitarian and fraternal Alliance. It is here that sets the prophet Elijah realizing that it can not go forward.
One thing that we see now in 17.1 not the calling of Elijah is told as it happens for other biblical characters, the author tells us only that Elijah is "one of the inhabitants of Gilead," and exercising the ministry enters of prophet announcing the situation of sin, a time of drought the last three years.
How many times in our life, before speaking of "vocation" We have lived (or live) a drought? In this ad
Elia wants to understand life as opposed to the situation of death and violence and the whole situation of idolatry against which YHWH is the God of life, which is interested in the life of the people, unlike Ahab, despite his religious interests.
In these verses of chapter 6. We have 17 symbols that refer to God the rain and dew.
These two signs indicate they want the word of God (cf. Dt 32.2; Sir 39.6, Is 55.10 to 11) down as peace and justice (Ps 72.5-7). It is a symbol of God's love (especially the dew) to Israel (Hos 14:6), a symbol of brotherly love (Ps 133.3).
But Elijah is a symbol, a parable of God's Word says Ben Sira, "Elijah arose, a prophet, like fire, and his word burned like a torch" (48.1), that is, the word does not come from him, but by God, so his word is the word of God, not words about God but the word of God
So the Prophet announced by the drought means there is no Word of God, the absence of the love of God when there is this kind of drought, our life moves between the nonsense and the search for meaning through continuous dissemination of "why" (see Deut 11.16-17; Ez 22.24; Am 4.7) . What Elijah complaint is the 'atomization' of society.
You breathe the air, even this phenomenon in our society where everyone is for himself, shuts himself up in his cave and live their lives, resulting in disintegration (cf. Jer 14.1 to 10).
Elijah announces his theological interpretation of reality, which coincides with the vision that God has this reality. Why is this coincidence?
The name of Elijah ('eliyyahu) means "YHWH is my God." In fact, he is one who lives in this presence, which is the "presence of God, pray and live or listen to the Word of God But the people seem not to live under the primacy of the Word of God is confused, you cheated the first attraction or need. He needs to return to the sources of faith, to be fed by God (vv. 2-6).
In these verses we have the symbol of God's word: meat, bread, water, the same ones that had the people in the desert (Ex 16,8.12).
will the ravens to bring food to Elijah, that animal that is unclean (Deut. 14:14), not for the sacrifices on the altar of YHWH, and that symbolizes the living room of Elijah in the pagan land, outside of Israel.
In this particular time Elijah has to live in hiding, returning to the sources of faith, where he was born a free people from slavery (Jordan-Step-Easter). This concealment
you feel protected by God (Ps 32.21) and at the same time experiencing the absence of God, the sin of the people symbolized by the raven.
With his concealment, Elijah makes visible the drought and its severe consequences: lack of values and brotherly love, solidarity, presence of death.
Even Jesus, with his hidden life at Nazareth experience this situation, but his death will be to resurrect the people.
Elijah teaches us that in all our situation, there is a hidden meaning that often we are unable to decipher. He believes that life and all creation is governed by secret rules and laws. Hence the invitation to discover the deeper meaning of things. But not enough to find out.
all knowledge of man and the world starts from the knowledge of God In fact, Elijah "drank of the brook" (17.6), that is with God "who gives healing to the sick with the sprinkling of water '(Pseudo-Ephrem ). This is not
turns away from reality, but does just the opposite: in the light of God, man and the world acquire their true dimension.
with the prophet, we are called to cultivate "the art of making us questions" to find meaning in life, every day to find out the secret of happiness and personal fulfillment.
The Kingdom of God, the prophet says, is the latest way to go to avoid running into the disaster, to transform human society (including religious) in a hymn to life.

QUESTIONS 1. The prophet Elijah taught that life is a gift. As a personal gift to go particularly proud of?
2. You, too, like Elijah to live "presence of God" that is, plays pray and live the Word of God?
3. Have you ever thought that the Word of God dwells even your own words?
4. Which reality do you feel particularly challenged?
- situations of injustice and exploitation;
- give rise to fear of failure;
- situations of separation from God;
- situations of non-sense of looking at life;
- situations not love
- situations of witness and joyful self-giving.
5. Do you feel in your situation called "drought" to be a prophet bringing the Word of God at all?

PRAYER Lord, I am better than others and I you have placed in the salvation of others. My light is so dim that hardly see the road for me, and I have become a signal for everyone.
are too common flour sack, I am a man like any other and want my weakness and strength of the weak, that my wealth and poverty of the poor, that my illness is hope for all.

Judith

lectio (Judith 8,1.9,1.10,1-3.5-10.12,20-13,1-2.4 - 8.10-11)

8, [1] In those days he was aware of the situation Judith daughter of Merari, the son of Oks, son of Joseph, son of Oziel, the son of Elkie , son of Ananias, the son of Gideon, son of Rafain, son of Achitob, son of Elijah, the son of Hilkiah, son of Eliab, the son of Nathaniel, son of Salamiel son Sarasadai of the son of Israel.
9, [1] Then Judith fell on his face, and scattered ashes on his head and put the bag in the closet was covered under and hour when it was offered in the temple of God in Jerusalem, the incense of the evening , Judith prayed aloud the Lord.
10, [1] When Judith had ceased to plead with the God of Israel, and had finished speaking all these words, [2] rose from prostration, he called his servant and went down particularly in the house where he used to pass the days of Saturdays and parties. [3] [...] put on his clothes party, who had used when her husband was alive Manasseh. [5] And he gave to her maid a bottle of wine cruet of oil, also filled a bag of toasted flour, dried figs and loaves of bread and pure, made a bundle of all these containers, placed it on his shoulders. [6] Then they went out the door and found the city of Bethulia ready at Uzziah and the elders of the city, Cabri and Carmi. [7] These people, when they saw transformed in appearance and changed his clothes, are very admiring of her beauty and said, "[8] The God of our fathers to give you please find and complete what you have agreed to do, the pride of Israel, and for the exaltation of Jerusalem. " [9] And she leaned over to worship God and said to them: "Let me open the door of the city and I will go to give fulfillment to the words cards that have extended to me. "Those young people to guard gave order to open them as requested. [10] So they went and Judith: it alone and the servant he had with him. From the city followed the men with their looks while down the mountain, until he crossed the valley and could no longer see her.
12 [20] Holofernes delight of her presence and plenty of drank as much wine as he had never drank only a day since he was in the world.
13 [1] When it grew dark, his servants made haste to retreat. Bagoas closed from outside the tent and the guards away from the sight of his master, and each went to his bed, but in fact they were all weakened, because drinking was excessive. [2] Judith was left alone in the tent, and Holofernes stretched out on the couch, drunk. [4] [...] Judith fermatasi the couch at him, said in his heart: "Lord, the God of all power, look at this gracious work of my hands for the exaltation of Jerusalem. [5 ] It 's time to think about your legacy and to get my plan for the destruction of the enemies who have risen against us. " [6] She went to the bedpost that he was at the head of Holofernes, broke off his sword, [7] She came close to the bed, grabbed him by the hair of his head and said, "Give me strength, Lord God Israel, at this time. " [8] And as hard as she could hit him twice in the neck and cut off his head. [10] [...] both came out, according to their use, for prayer, crossed the field, did a tour in the valley, then climbed the mountain to Betulia and reached the city gates.
[11] Judith cried out to guard the door: "Open, open now the gate: God is with us, our God, to exercise its power even in power against Israel and its enemies, as demonstrated today. "

A very long song, but that should be read from the first chapter. The Book of Judith, in fact, contains the story of the victory over the enemies of the chosen people, thanks intervention of a woman, Judith. What words are in vocational
this woman, a young widow, beautiful, wise, pious and resolute, that the first will to fight against the inertia of his people and then against the Assyrian army?
The presentation of this woman is done by a genealogy. In Jewish culture comes from the organization to clan and tribe. Most of the rights and privileges of the person were an individual to his membership in clans and tribes.
The genealogy is so important because it presents itself as a written document of this membership (see Gen 5.1 to 11; Es 6.14 to 24; 1Chr 1-9; Ezr 2.59 to 63).
front of the verses of the lineage Judith has to wonder: Who is Judith? Where you from?
The author has simply picked up some random memory to complete the album of life, but from the beginning forward the testimony of the faith of a people. The details of history escape us, but God is at work. First
ahead two names that are a symbol of a message: Betulia and Judith. Both are symbols of something. Betulia means "House of the Lord" and Judith "Judea".
In this first verse we have a noun that has a daughter Judith, followed by 14 other masculine nouns.
In the story of Judith, I think this word is the key to us today. The son in the Old Testament is seen as a gift from God (Gen. 1:28; Dt 28.4 to 11; Is 54.1, Ps 128.3). The translation of the Bible Cei ends this verse, unlike the Vulgate, with "son of Israel" that in the translation of the Bible is translated with interfaith "Jacob, founder of the Israeli people.
We can grasp a thought for us that should not be understood in terms of generation, but of choice.
Israel and the Israelites, especially the pious people, calling themselves sons of God (Ex 4:22, Isaiah 1:2). but the son of God and for the people of the Bible, is not to be seen on the side of nature, or in the natural relationship between God and man (cf. Mt 5:9), but in the election by God (cf. Hos 2) and in the work of man.
The Jewish wisdom tradition and gives great importance to the lives of people right, pie. The Hebrew text of Sir conclusion of this 4.1-10's promise: "And God will call you son and will be merciful to you (you will grace) and will save you from the grave (destruction)."
With these words of promise, everyone can find his way, his call every day that the Lord speaks.
And that's what Judith did, this extraordinary woman who has shown faith in the Lord in the darkest hours of life. There are four points to guide, together with this woman, our vocation: 1. trust in God, 2, the value of prayer, 3. fidelity to the Word (the Law of Moses), 4. the power of God
These four points are not only part of the exodus of the Israelites, but also that of each of us. In this story, God is continually present with a special providence that demonstrates his love and loyalty for the people, despite his resistance.
We, like Judith, are chosen directly by God for a mission of service in favor of the chosen people, becoming an instrument of divine providence, the bearers of gifts, the servants of God among his people.
Judith is also a vocation as a model act for the good of all people. his vocation is oriented a mission, of which God is the first support; vocation and mission are made from genuine miracles that God accompanies them because all the people might believe. Judith
Faith is the faith of a people (remember that his name means "Jewess"), and say faith is to believe in propositions, but to a person who for Christians is Christ.
Instead of Holofernes that marked his life from the Word which says: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man, which puts flesh his support and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, when the well does not see it, the parched places in the desert in a salt land where no one can live "(Jer 17.5-6).
The Christian is a person who has a new way of living and that makes his faith a set of gestures of worship or moralistic impositions, but the fundamental perspective, the logic underlying his whole life.
When you accept the faith, not only accepts a message, you do not accept an ideology, a set of values and methods are organized according to the canons of a particular culture, but the same commitment to Christ, choosing him, his person, his living presence in history. And it is as far as trying to believe, that is to "trust in God," which warns the shocking invasion that God does in her life with the violence of his greatness, that goes beyond time and space, giving new identities to each of his children.
This will, then, the new Betulia, where the new temple of the Lord pours forth the acua living for all peoples.

question
1. From reading the Bible is clear that God calls first, and that, when called, God is faithful. What does it mean to say that the vocation from God?
2. Your life is guided by the vocational four points mentioned, as it was for Judith?
3. Your faith in God makes you do every day of the "new steps"? What?
4. You are in the world, such as Judith, defending and promoting life?

prayer
The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life, whom shall I fear? If
against an army encamp me, my heart shall not fear;
if war break out against me, yet I trust.
One thing I ask of the Lord, that will I seek:
live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to taste the sweetness of the Lord and to behold his temple.
He gives me a place of refuge in times of trouble.
He hides me in his house, me high on a cliff.
And now he raised his head above the enemies who surround me;
tent I will offer sacrifices of joy in his house,
sing hymns of joy to the Lord (Psalm 27).
